Although I drink a lot of matcha today, I wasn't always a fan of the green tea. In honour of #MatchaMonday, here are 3 (somewhat embaressing) things about the start of my matcha journey:
1. The first time I tried matcha was 7 years ago. I was so turned off by the taste I didn't think it could actually be tea and assumed all matcha was the same.
2. The matcha I had was dull and brown, not vibrant green like it should be. I didn't even know where it was sourced, but knew it wasn't Japan. At that time I was just stoked that I scored an awesome deal getting 100 grams of "high quality" matcha for $15. (Spoiler alert: it wasn't high quality)
3. Back then I also thought matcha was an instant tea that you just stir into water with a spoon. It's not. Unless you want to drink a bunch of matcha clumps, I don't recommend you make it that way. 😝
How did I begin to love matcha after that experience? 💚 I started to take a look at the colour and texture of the matcha I was drinking. I made sure I knew where the matcha was sourced AND that it was 100% pure matcha with no other filler ingredients (sweeteners, flavouring, etc). What was your first matcha experience like!?
