FUN FACT: Prior to dropping out of #NikiCaro's planned #MariaCallas biopic ("Callas") based on #AlfonsoSignorini's biography "Too Proud, Too Fragile", Eva played Callas during her theatre days in an adaptation of #TerrenceMcNally's #MasterClass. Master Class is a 1995 play that was presented as a fictional master class by legendary opera singer Maria Callas. The play takes place during a voice master class with Callas at the Julliard School in the 1970s. Callas is alternatively portrayed as being dismayed and impressed by her students that she retreats into recollections of the glory days of her life and career. Included in her musings are her younger years as an ugly duckling, her fierce hatred of her rivals, the unforgiving press that savaged her early performances, her triumphs at #LaScala, and her affair with #AristotleOnassis. It culminates in a monologue about sacrifice taken in the name of art. The play opened on Broadway in 1995, with stars #ZoeCaldwell (Actress in a Play) and #AudraMcDonald (Featured Actress in a Play) respectively winning during the 1996 #TonyAwards. #NoomiRapace will now play the lead role in the upcoming film #Callas, written and directed by Caro which will focus on the singer’s extramarital relationship with shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis.
