Canada is now the second country after Uruguay to legalize the possession and use of recreational cannabis. The country was open for cannabis business Wednesday at midnight. Many questions are still unclear about the impact on health, the law and public safety. While many cannabis advocates believe some of the government regulations are unfair and too restrictive. Over 15 million households were sent mailers for public awareness detailing the new cannabis laws.
Provinces and territories are responsible for laying out many of the details for where cannabis can be bought and consumed within their jurisdictions. This method has created a pandora's box of legislation across the country as jurisdictions one up each other on more or less restrictive processes and procedures for selling and using cannabis. Retail storefronts in the province of Newfoundland, the most eastern time zone in Canada, opened right as the clock struck midnight. The province is now the first to record legal sales of cannabis in the country
