More than 1,000 ft. of gain in less than two miles, followed by 3.5 glorious downhill miles. This route always kills me. And that’s why I love it.
Confession: I’ve been mistaking complacency for comfort lately, especially with work. Things were feeling pretty, dare I say, stable and easy. So I stopped hustling. Worse, I stopped dreaming.

But I recently had an uncomfortable wake-up call that’s causing me to claim back more ownership of my career. This isn’t the easy path. I am remembering how worthwhile it is, though.
So do this for me: Recommit to a goal, whether it’s big or small, personal or professional. Life may not be easier, but it *is* better with goals in your sights.

Work hard and follow your heart 💙 Deciding my race plans for the next few months had me thinking about where I want to go and what I want to do. Truth is, I’m a trail runner at heart, and as much as I have fun sometimes running and racing on the roads- I really just want to be out on the trails. So, whilst I’ll still be running New Forest Marathon I’ll be doing it as a workout to prepare for my next big challenge @maverickrace X-series Snowdonia. Beyond excited to actually run a marathon UP A MOUNTAIN, and I cannot wait to see what adventure is up next. 10 miles easy today and big ups to @running_bucky for the most excellent and reasonably priced advice on how to peak and taper for this next event cycle. This easy 4 couldn’t have landed on a better day. I’m sore from my workout yesterday and so tired since my 1 year old decided to start waking up at 5am again for the past few days😒 I tried to take a nap yesterday while he was napping but have you ever tried napping with an awake 3 year old? It used to be mile by mile and now it’s mailbox by mailbox. Wherever you are in your journey, don’t compare yourself to others and just do the very best you can. .
I could be defeated by my time and less miles but I am giving myself some wiggle room while growing a human. Know that as long as you wake up and try, that’s a win! You only lose when you don’t believe in yourself, have negative self talk or build up the excuses so nothing gets done. .
You are worth it - if you need an extra push, my virtual groups are always open and running!! 🤗

You’ll have to do a little swiping left to get this, but the gist of it is: Don’t cheat the body! Also, don’t race your workouts! 1 week after this 12 miler last year I ran a trail half marathon in 2.22 aka pretty bang on the elapsed time of this run. I thought because I could hold that pace when my watch was running, I could hang tight come race day. Au contraire mon frere, it is no surprise my body did exactly what I’d trained it to do. Also, I was busting my butt to hit those paces- what for?! Now, I save the racing for ya know, races, and I try not to pause my watch in a real session. If I’m having a chilled out one or running with my mates I’m not bothered, but in general I check and compare those numbers (Total and Elapsed time) after every single run to keep working productively. Today’s run was 1 up, 10 aerobic, 1 down and I tried to keep myself honest and not flex for the ‘gram or my ego and just get some solid mileage in the bank. Now, I know I paused for nearly 3 minutes today but I came upon a mooohoosive group of cows and calves and I needed to figure a way through plus plan my exit in case they got ornery. SDW 🐄 innit 🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyhooooo or anymoooooo, this is something that has really helped me race smarter so I thought I’d share it here even if it’s a little embarrassing. Live and learn, eh?

Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one. I went #hiking and found my #trail. It led me 700m above sea level (2300 ft.). I crossed the #arcticcircle and found this beautiful place. My #crosstraining. Grateful for #beingstrong and healthy. Preparing for #berlinmarathon and #chicagomarathon.

She’s been my running buddy for 11 years.

She would go out with me for a few miles then be wagging her tail at the door to go out with my husband and run more.
.
She trained with me for 25ks, 1/2 marathons and even my first marathon. For Warrior Dashes, Tough Mudders and Spartan Races.
.
She’s chased deer and rabbits with me in the woods, trudged through the ice and snow and even did an epic 8-mile run out in the country with us.
.
But her sweet gray face and tired body just can’t handle running any more. Some days, even long walks are too much.
.
But every time I lace up my shoes, she comes trotting to the door and gives me this look.
.
She’s ready to run. It’s in her blood. And I love her so much for that. I get it. It’s in mine, too.
.
But it breaks my heart every time I have to close that door and leave her behind. And my husband says she lays down by the door and doesn’t move.
.
She’s waiting for me. For the next adventure together. I’d give anything to take you with, baby girl. ❤️

It’s marathon week for @anchoragerunfest 😎🏃🏻‍♀️ Not sure why I love this 26.2 thing so much but I’ll be over here thanking the Lord for the little joys he gives us- like ya know the joy in training months to wear yourself down physically and mentally for 3 + hours just to overindulge in bananas , peanut butter, and high fives. #runnersareweird. Also I officially have three styles of headbands I’m working on this week - this style is the same sweat wicking fabric but double layered for the -20 degree runs coming back before we know it . I’m calling it #alaskatough and you can find them on my Etsy shop next week!
