#NSKrishnan (1908-1957) [right] was a popular Tamil film actor, comedian, theatre artist and writer during the 1940s and 1950s, who was hailed by critics as the #CharlieChaplin of India. He made his debut in the film #SathiLeelavathi (1936). for which he wrote the screenplay, dialogues and directed his scenes in the film. His directorial debut #Manamagal (1951) had M Karunanidhi as screenplay and dialogue writer. It was an adaptation of the Malayalam play #Suprabha and was a commercial as well as a critical success. Many years later when #Karunanidhi was asked in an interview who his non-political hero was, he replied that it was NS Krishnan.
