How many times have you said you "can't" about things you clearly know how to do or have definitely done before?
"I can't focus"
"I can't cook dinner tonight."
"I can't help it, when he/she does xyz I just lose it."
"I can't remember to write thank you cards."
The truth is you can.
BUT, this post isn't about judgment or shame (and no post ever will be in this group)
The point is to look at those statements. What do they mean?
💥have low blood sugar
💥triggered (emotionally or physically)
💥focused on other things...
We know these things about ourselves so we understand our shortcomings. .
Do you remember that the SAME thing happens to your kiddo?
They do things we don't like, things we've told them not to do, things we KNOW they've done correctly before....
for all the same reasons we do the exact same thing. .
We cannot hold our children to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. .
What we CAN do is help them recognize what's holding them back from their and our intended goal - this takes curiosity, determination, instinct, and a detective hat - and then we can help them to develop tools and strategies to do better. .
