Day 22: Extracurricular activities
Harmony is learning how to play classical guitar from me. We haven't moved very quickly, mostly because she is so small that even with the tiniest real guitar we have, it's only been recently that she could hold it correctly on her own without me actively keeping it from falling out of her lap! She is positive about learning music, but it's such a part of her life, as Chris and I talk about music, listen to music, attend live music, and play music constantly, that I'm sure she views playing an instrument as just another thing everybody does as they get older, like taking a shower or learning to read.
However, Harmony has lately been wary of performing. She had asked (of her own volition) to play guitar at our end-of-the-year homeschool co-op expo, but on the morning of the expo, she panicked suddenly and told us she was too nervous. We were fine with her not performing, of course! But she asked us to bring her guitar to the event "just in case" she changed her mind, and she did. Afterwards, I asked whether she had enjoyed it; she said that she did, but it was still scary. If performing music isn't her thing, then at least she'll still enjoy music as we learn and play and listen to it as a family, and that's totally okay!
