Over the next few days, I'm going to recount the true tale about a ship which wrecked on Gull Rock.

It was a fierce night at sea on the 1st of February 1914 when the German steel barque named Hera was impaled on Gull Rock. Rockets were fired to alert the life boat but it was sinking fast. Only 5 of the 24 crew struggled up the rigging, cold and exhausted they were engulfed by the freezing waves whipped up in the gales. For 2 hours they endured these conditions until the life boat from Falmouth was directed to them by the shrill sounds of the ships whistle.
