FreeRTOS is a popular real-time operating system kernel for embedded devices that has been ported to microcontrollers. FreeRTOS is designed to be small and simple. It is easy to port, and maintainable. It is written mostly in C, but there are a few assembly functions included where needed. FreeRTOS is a scale-able real time kernel designed specifically for small embedded systems. FreeRTOS provides methods for multiple threads or tasks, mutexes, semaphores and software timers. The FreeRTOS project was founded by Richard Barry. Richard graduated with 1st Class Honours in Computing for Real Time Systems. FreeRTOS contains an free real time OS with essential kernel of low power & high efficiency. It supports many architecture like ARM, Altera, Xilinx, IBM, Intel etc. FreeRTOS is widely used in Real Time Embedded System because of following features. - Abstract out timing information
