I'd like to talk about inspiration vs art theft.
I won't get into too much detail because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or start any arguments, that's not the point in this post. I simply want to say that because a lot of artists have become so concerned about people stealing their ideas or concepts, I think a lot of other artists are afraid to be inspired by other people's art. I noticed this was an issue a while back, but I mostly became concerned about it when my little sister told me that she was afraid to tag artists on Instagram, that she had done studies of, because she thought they might accuse her of stealing. As you can see in the posts above I am constantly inspired by my favorite colorist @sinccolor and his amazing colors over many different covers and comics and in turn a lot of you have told me that you're inspired by my colors, I think that's great! I want to inspire you! If you see me do something that you'd like to try, please, I encourage you, go for it! Now, if Alex Sinclair had accused me of stealing his ideas and concepts instead of encouraging me to keep being inspired, I probably wouldn't be a colorist today. I especially wouldn't be working for DC! So my main point is, art is and should be a collaborative process, so try and let others know that it's okay to be inspired by your art. Share ideas with each other, after all, inspiration is what keeps us going and motivates us to improve our art. People use the term art community to describe us all the time, let's not lose that sense of community, but instead make this community flourish! 😊 #peaceandlove #makeartnotwar Also sorry for the poor grammar, I don't claim to be a good writer.
