In honor of National Native American Heritage Month, we are showcasing this lovely Maidu basket. .
Maidu is pronounced "my-doo." In their language, Maidu is the word for "people." Located in Northern California, Maidu means one community, however, through the years it now refers to multiple communities in the tribe. .
The Maidu are known for their basket weaving, as seen in this intricately woven basket c. 1910. This particular basket was woven by a Pujunan tribe member. .
Sad that in this day it is easier to be acknowledged as a #nonpolarperson than an actual member of your tribe in #California cause apparently the process is far more difficult to be a #nativeamerican vs just being an #american since it seems #identifying to something bears greater weight than actual genetics these days 🤔🤔🤔 cause while there is a restiction on how many native americans they acknowledge a year ( capping registration) vs just letting everyone decide they can be whatever sex or whatever they want on a whim 😩😩😩 #maidu#familyman#justsayin#reality
