Being back from the river, I've had lots of time to really reflect on our family adventure down the Franklin. The river showed me how to get really steady and still not just in peaceful calm pools but also in the face of adversity and chaos. Sometimes I felt scared, overwhelmed and very small against the big boulders and fast water and huge gorges, trees and caves but by the end of the trip I really felt vulnerable in a magical way, incredibly peaceful and in ore and wonder for nature. I felt connected like never before, we swam, washed, cooked and slept alongside the river for 10 days and it was beautifully simple, exposing and pure and it made me realize how important it is to go outside, turn off your phone and get to terms with the reality of our landscape not all of the noise in our monkey minds. When your in the wilderness you have no choice but to be present you have to watch your step and use your mind to really think and consider the consequence of a particular action. To go outside of your comfort zone and get peaceful with the spiders and snakes and LEACHES is super important! Confront your own fear because in the end once you let go of them you realize that you are safe and the creepy crawlies are just as awesome as the glow worms and shooting stars that light up the darkness. In 2018 I urge you to explore and adventure out of your comfort zone, what ever that means to you and spend time in nature, it's more important than ever before as we are becoming more separated from our planet and destroying it and it needs our love and care.
