Our Winter/Spring 2017 artist residents are heading out at the end of the month! Come to the Museum at 6:30 pm tonight for pay-what-you-wish admission and a presentation of the work they created during their residencies. These organic cotton jackets were hand-woven on a loom in the #MADArtistStudios by artist resident Yoshiyuki Minami. His one-of-a-kind pieces take 70 to 80 hours to create. #YoshiyukiMinami #fashion #weaving

Today was my last day as an artist in residence at the MAD Museum of Arts and Design. I can't believe it's been 4 months already! I've met great people, found inspiration in conversations with visitors on a weekly basis, and really developed the way I talk about my @ancient_truth_investigators project. Overall, it has been a really amazing experience. Thanks @madmuseum !

MAD’s current Van Lier Fellow is Ilana Harris-Babou, who uses music videos, cooking shows, and home improvement television as material for an abject exploration of the American Dream. She works primarily in ceramic sculpture and video installation to ask questions about intimacy, violence, and consumption. At the Museum, she is working on a series of dysfunctional ceramics, distorting kitchenware and household tools in order to urge viewers to question their relationship to touch and utility. Visit Harris-Babou in our open Artist Studios every Tuesday through Saturday! #IlanaHarrisBabou

Rachel Frank, an artist resident at MAD, uses sculpture, video, and performance to highlight the tensions between the natural world and the human-made. She recently completed a video project, ‘Vapors’, which featured performers wearing masks of an extinct woolly rhinoceros and a woolly mammoth. Frank can be found exploring issues of environmentalism and social justice in our open Artist Studios every Friday. #sustainability #video #performance #MADArtistStudios

Our resident Heidi Lau works on Saturdays in our open studios, where she creates ceramic sculptures and experiments with Suminagashi marbling. Reconfiguring fragmented personal and collective memories, Lau's collections of symbolic artifacts take inspiration from colonial architecture and tenement houses in Macau that have mostly been demolished or gentrified beyond recognition. #Suminagashi #marbling #sculpture #MADArtistStudios

Progress on my Pronghorn head at my Museum of Arts and Design residency on Fridays. Pronghorn are a native North American antelope-type animal that make long migrations every year.
