Slowly, But Surely
Following yesterday’s post, Jefferson salamanders are also listed as endangered species here in Ontario. They need intact forests and unpolluted breeding ponds that don’t dry up in the summers. Unfortunately, their habitat range occurs in one of the most developed regions of Canada, meaning habitat and wetland loss for the Jefferson. -
They’re also really slow movers. Which make them great as photography subjects, but not for safely crossing roads. In the city of Burlington, they shutdown 1 km along one of their main roads for 3 weeks to let these little guys cross safely and reach their breeding ponds.
