We upgraded the back deck with some fold out chairs ☺️ it's nice to lounge around on a pretty rug too but sometimes you need something a bit more structured πŸ’ΊπŸ’ΊπŸššπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸƒ

Joe has gone Italian food mad, i haven't had a chance to cook in agers...not only has he ditched his morning Americano for a cappachino, he is making pizza from scratch almost everyday for brief lunches and right this minute he is cooking a vegetarian lasagne, homemade bachemal and everything. He is also insistent that we drink only local Italian red wines... I'm not complaining πŸ˜πŸššπŸ‘¨β€πŸ³πŸπŸ₯˜πŸ• I might as well start calling him Giuseppe πŸ‘Œ

It's a map out kind of morning. We haven't yet decided where we will spend winter...We are choosing between Sardinia, southern spain, Morocco, Greece or the Canary islands. Itchy feet meant we left home without getting round to installing our log burner so this winter we need to follow the winter sun. Any suggestions? 🌬️🌞 πŸššπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸƒ

I woke up at 2am with no feeling in my face. I instantly shake Joe awake demanding to know what the f*** has happend to my lips and nose, what could he see? He slowly turns around and squints at me holding a torch to my face and with one eye open groans ' nothing, for god sake' and rolls back over...'nothing?!?' I scream. He later looks at me properly and paradoxically insists I see a doctor imediatly. We then remember that this has happend before. I very occasionally have a reaction to mosquito bites when I'm bitten on my face.. Usually its my eyes that react, so much so I can't open them, this time it's my upper lip and nose area. I just have to wait till the swelling goes down, by evening, now, it's almost gone. Thank goodness for that!

We stayed here one night, not a million miles away from Matera. Very very peaceful. Blue absolutely loved it, she spent as much time in the lake as she did running around it. πŸ•πŸššπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸƒ

He's cooking, we are eating on the balcony over looking the ocean in our new chairs from decathlon 😍

Beach life, van life...A bit of both. It's been so hot today we have done nothing at all apart from roll around complaining about it and dipping in the sea in attempt to cool off. I don't know how people are achieving anything in this heat! How are there roads and houses and offices and shops, we can't even bring our self's to get dressed 🌑️🌑️🌑️

I just spent 5 hours washing a months worth of laundry in this blue bucket, I think we will wash once a week from now on. On the plus side everything is dry in 15 mins. There is a large choice, in Italian super markets, of hand laundry soaps in bar or jelly form. We chose 2 organic eco friendly ones, one jelly and one citronella bar leaving our clothes smelly lemony fresh πŸ‹πŸ‘•πŸ‘–πŸ‘—πŸ‹

We had a great day yesterday exploring this place...But life on the road is not always amazing. Today was a bit of a monstrosity which started at 2am with me having an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite, followed by being woken by a strange man lurking in the trees outside our van which of course woke Blue and caused chaos in the middle of the night. This man hid in the trees for hours watching us, switching from tree to tree so he could get a better view. He was less than 10ft away at times. We were in the middle on nowhere, no houses, no towns..It's a forested area by a lake. It was funny and curious at first but later.. strangely even after making him aware that we could see him, he continued and was getting closer and closer not making much of an effort to conceal himself at all. when we confronted him he ran back to a car he had parked a little down the road. We thought we wouldn't see him again and relaxed a little but he then proceeded to drive past us every 5-15 mins over the next few hours, slowing to an almost stop every time so he could continue starring, which later escalated to him stopping and beeping and driving off quickly before we could get out. In between laughing at the situation we were starting to question really what was going on here, this guy seems like a complete f****** nutter.. we became more and more nervous and by lunchtime we were thoroughly freaked out and left. Not having planned on leaving we spent hours and hours driving aimlessly through little mountains towns and stomach knotting hair pin bends getting more and more stressed out. We were low on drinking water and fuel and hadn't seen a shop all day..5 hours later we eventually found a supermarket (40mins ago) and are spending the night not far away in hopes of a better day tomorrow...πŸššπŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Beautiful Matera and it's underground world

Yummy Italian ice cream πŸ˜‹ the number one way to cool off in a hot Italian summer πŸššπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸƒπŸŒ‘οΈπŸŒ‘οΈπŸŒ‘οΈ

We loved wondering the old streets of Metera yesterday..What an amazing town! I took this photos from a highish vantage point, it reminds me of a where's wally picture 🀣

I love how the Italians celebrate life and death..Look at these amazing wooden doors. The skulls at the top are crowned πŸ‘‘β˜ οΈπŸššπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸƒ

We arrived in Matera just in time to see the President of the Republic making an appearance, there were cheers and applause when he stepped outside the large government building. The amount of police ,security and press around the town was phenomenal.

One of our favourite things to do whilst in italy is visit the little gelato shops to sample some of the obscure flavours of ice cream on offer, we think it's best eaten while slowly trundling down old narrow streets πŸ‘Œ today I had crema di limon with cioccolato bianco and Joe had fantasia di legno with caffe flavour. The most delicious way to cool off πŸ¦πŸ’•

Today we ventured into the amazing town of Matera. Carved from the valley this town has an amazing underground labyrinth of stone buildings, most of which were originally caves. We wondered in ore at the sheer beauty of this place.

Travel planning love...Where to next?

We explored the beautiful town of Ostuni in the Puglia region of southern Italia..What a beautiful place to be

Behind this door is a tropical wonderland β™£οΈπŸŒ΄πŸΉπŸ¦„πŸŒ΅

Great beach for snorkeling and excellent place to spend the night. We stayed here the last two nights not doing much other than reading and swimming.

Little winding streets. It's nice and cool here in the shade of these thick aging walls.
