When ball is life you'll play anywhere, anytime and with anyone. Slam dunk competition in the middle of a Brooklyn block? Sure, no problem.... This is what you call street ball.... if you're from NYC than you know what I'm talking about.

I remember playing ball with gloves on in the middle of a snowstorm or in my backyard in freezing cold weather. It didn't matter the time of day or the time of the year. If there was a ball and hoop than we were getting it in!πŸ€Don't believe me? Ask @timelesstruth @joel.rdrgz or any one of my friends from childhood. We played ALL YEAR ROUND and those are some of my fondest memories of growing up in Corona, Queens #BabyStarks #iwishiwasalittlebittaller #iwishiwasaballer

Yesterday afternoon, Alfredo stopped by my office because he needed to talk. After sharing a few laughs he admitted that he wanted to see me because he was hungry and wouldn't have access to cash for a few more days. He has never asked me for money and never will because I've made it very clear that I would never enable his addiction. However he also knows that he can count on me if he were ever hungry. Often times he doesn't want food but yesterday was different. Yesterday he felt comfortable enough to ask and it felt great to know that he has that kind of trust in me.
------------------
Police Officer Reynoso happened to be standing next to me when Alfredo asked if I could buy him a sandwich. Without hesitation PO Reynoso went inside and came back with a full plate of food. Angels do walk this earth and this small gesture of kindness will come back to him 10x fold. ----------------
As many of you know, Alfredo is homeless and is battling alcoholism. ANY ONE OF US can be or have been in his position and sometimes all it takes for us to break those chains is having someone in our lives who cares. God bless Alfredo, God bless Officer Reynoso and God bless everyone out there who shows compassion towards others. We are all HUMAN. πŸ™πŸΌπŸŒŽβ€οΈ

We want to thank you again @cindymchugh304 for your generosity, although Alfredo said he is going to hit you with a dental bill after all the sweets you sent him ☺️🍬🍭🍑🍫 #payitforward #communitypolicing #bethechange #bekind #staycommitted #NYPD #onefamily #LtMikeNYPD #lovewhatmatters

Please take a minute and pray for our homeless population tonight and during the storm tomorrow. While you are at home, warm and cozy with your loved ones, just take a moment to be grateful for what you have. Many people don't have anything at all but still manage to crack a smile like my friend Alfredo here. Our friendship has given me even more gratitude for everything and everyone I have in my life. Tonight we shared a meal, a few laughs and a warm smile. #thankful #blessed #payitforward #bekind #loveothers #havecompassion #staycommitted #communitypolicing #LtMikeNYPD #bethechange

Getting to share my story, my failures and accomplishments, and some of the knowledge I've gained over the past fifteen years working in the NYPD is surreal. This is part 1 of 3 videos that I will be sharing. It is a small glimpse into the presentation that I do for the recruits at the Police Academy. To say that I feel blessed to be in a position to help others is a true understatement. Thank you for watching πŸ™πŸΌ

Video was filmed by my good friend Sergeant Charles Peifer and was edited by @_glenda_donato_ ... Thank you both!! Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3. #lovewhatmatters #communitypolicing #NYPD #payitforward #purpose #maketheworldsmile #LtMikeNYPD #JustaKidFromCorona

Alfredo is such a gentle soul, such a pure spirit, such an inspirational human being. He is inspirational because despite the circumstances that have limited him (being homeless) and his addiction to alcohol, he still manages to smile and remain positive.
----------------
Alfredo has good days and bad days just like the rest of us but what remains clear is that he won't let it break him. He doesn't let the negative thoughts consume him. Every single time I visit him he greets me with a huge smile and we always get a good laugh. ----------------
Today my Dad wanted to 1. Visit me but 2. and more importantly meet Alfredo. Luckily enough we found him at his usual spot. You can tell he had some morning jitters due to the lack of alcohol in his system but he remained cheerful and was excited to meet my father. I also happened to have a package for him that was sent in by my good friend @cindymchugh304 from West Virginia! The package of goodies definitely made his day!!!

A Police Officer from Gainesville, Florida named Bobby White reached out to the @nypd and asked if he could donate some hoops to kids in NYC. As chance would have it, Assistant Commissioner Kevin O'Conner chose Brooklyn North as the location where these hoops would be donated. He connected me with Bobby White and their vision turned into yesterdays amazing event in which four different neighborhoods (Brownsville / East New York / Bedford Stuyvesant / Bushwick) received a brand new basketball hoop and fifty (50) new basketballs. ---------------
The event was sponsored by @basketballcopfoundation @nba @nbacares and #Spalding

Even @dderbyman came down to join us all the way from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. I love how all of us came together on this to make this event a memorable one for all involved. We aren't done yet! Stay tuned for some more amazing photos from @angielmv who volunteered her time to capture all of these moments.

My #fbf goes to the time I had the opportunity to be apart of something big with @ltmikenypd. I met this man about 4/5 months ago when he came to talk to my class. His words moved me. His actions inspired me. Lt Mike is the most kind, caring, gentle and humble person I have ever met in my life. More humble than my mom. (Sorry mom. Lol. I never thought that was possible) He is the most approachable and open boss/supervisor I have ever come in to contact with. (I'm not saying that because I work for him because I don't nor have I ever) I am just truly grateful to have met him and feel lucky that I get to follow his story and the impact he is making in people's lives, including mine. I am working on doing the same and hopefully changing the world one person at a time. Lt Mike like I've told you before thank you for being you and being so open and sharing your story, both personal and work related. Thank you for being a great example of what a cop should be. Your faith and love for God, your family and the community is beyond amazing. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Just to show you how humble he is... I told him I want to be half the person he is and he told be that I am going to be 10 times better. 😊 β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
By following you I have learned to be grateful for all that I have, more than before. I am actively spending time with my family every chance I get. Working on making my career a great one. I am constantly sharing my story and how I am truly living out my purpose in life. I truly believe I have found my calling. When God tells me to share... I do, like I am now. The more I do it. The more God tells me to share, the more fulfilled I feel. Since I started watching your story my heart is filled with more love than I could have imagined. Thank you thank you thank you. God bless you and everyone who crosses your path. #ltmikenypd #nypd #payitforward #faith #love #god #godbless

I remember as a 13 year old kid I would go to Linden Park on 104th Street in Corona just to watch Steve, aka Biggie, play ball. It was something about the way he played the game that really captivated me. He was like Magic Johnson with his court vision and flashy passes but yet never showed up his opponents with trash talk. He let his game do the talking and always stayed humble. I looked up to him literally and figuratively since he was a few years older and several inches taller lol.
---------------
Fast forward 23 years and here we are planning our next event under the beautiful July sky and New York City skyline. Me and Steve have done two events now and both of them were huge successes. The first event was a free basketball clinic for the kids in Bedford Stuyvesant. The second event was a Foster Care Youth x NYPD Unity basketball game that we collaborated on with @melodyjc and @snychaplain ... Each event gets better so you know the next one will be amazing.

Steve thanks again for your friendship, your loyalty and your passion. You are definitely Da Man πŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ’―πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌ #beICONIC #payitforward #TwoKidsFromCorona
I am beyond lost for words. What a beautiful message. Truly appreciate the love! ------------------------ One of the best moments in my life was growing up watching Magic Johnson play ball with the @lakers. Hence the 32. He played + competed with grace and made everyone around him better. But little did I know that playing ball and emulating Magic in Linden Park (even though I was not even close to the Legend) would in turn motivate others. One of the reasons the Sports Lab was birthed in St. John's University in 1998 was to motivate others to follow their passion, no matter the circumstance. If we had people like @ltmikenypd in our lives, believing in us and guiding us, who knows what path we could have chosen. We are beyond grateful that now we can motivate others. And we are only getting started. God is working his Magic in US all. To build icons + superheroes + teachers + doctors + artist + musicians + entrepreneurs + point guards + community leaders across 🌎

I love the fact that I get to do a presentation at the Police Academy right before graduation. I get to connect with them and then get to witness the transition and joy of going from recruit to police officer. Thank you @wh0schris161 for sharing this photo with me and for allowing me to be a part of your moment. You reached out to me via IG months before getting into the police academy. You asked if it were possible for us to meet in person because you had some questions / concerns about leaving your career to start a new one. I welcomed you with open arms and truly enjoyed watching you go through the process step by step. I did not imagine that you would have a million & one questions but I wouldn't have it any other way lol because your questions helped me relive my first year experiences as a recruit and probationary police officer. Congrats on this amazing accomplishment, you earned it Jeff! βš«οΈπŸ”΅βš«οΈ
