About a month ago I finally went up at an open mic night and read some poems I wrote- something I'm trying to do more of this year. While I was editing this image the memory came back to me of writing this poem on a rainy day:
She called and asked me, "How you doing love?"- I said "I'm maintainin'. You know I've been feeling low, but you can't grow if it ain't raining." When I was young, I shoulda said it more- because a metaphor is better for explaining what I'm headed for- Talk ain't cheap, talk is costly, speak softly but let it roar.
I told her storm clouds are the norm now, see people working to the bone to build up buildings that are torn down- politics silent on violence- to keep the peace we go to war now, it's thoughts like these that open clouds and let it pour down.
She said don't be so cold it's the summer and it's warm now, don't get so fired up, you're just tired and you're worn down. I said I know- I'm just speaking as I think, rain runs off my umbrella as I walk to get a drink.
