I have always deeply related to the character of George Bailey ("It's a Wonderful Life"), even as a kid. Not on a surface level of third-party pity or empathy, but because deep down I intuitively understood the life he had lived. I had become familiar early on with the disappointment in putting others before myself emotionally and otherwise.
Fast-forward, and looking back, I have experienced moments at a bridge like this over the course of my life, considering a jump. The most recent being two years ago, when there was nothing holding me back from doing so. I sat down with a friend a couple of weeks ago and had the privilege of being able to decompress and verbalize that truth in confidence. I cannot stress the importance and value of seeing the face of God in the goodness of a person you can trust.
Pushing through to accept the responsibility of my gifts and continuing the work towards realizing their purpose has felt like a death sentence looming over me at times. Possibly because in the process, I have learned the hollowness of everything I've ever wanted for my life previously. Serving others with your gift, artistic or otherwise, will be the highest calling you will ever receive. It will be a challenge to be obedient. To show consistency. Once realized, purpose is unavoidable. No matter where you run, it will follow you. It will find you in your pain standing on a bridge, with no hope.
God entrusted you with your gift for a reason: That you would become the fullest expression of his creative intelligence to illuminate and enrich the lives of those around you. If you are standing at this bridge this holiday season, preparing to jump--please don't. You are valuable to us. Say a prayer tonight and wait for your guardian angel to show up. He is on the way. Please wait. #thursday #thoughtlifethursday #itsawonderfullife #jimmystewart #film #lifelessons #purpose #calling #youarevaluable #youareagift #youaremorethanacommodity #youaremorethanaconqueror #dontghostyourself #suicide #prevention #ptsd #depression #gethelp #losangeles #la #artist #wellness #faith #hope #love #thegreatestoftheseislove #jazz #music #prayer #lovesupreme
