ESSENTIAL OILS AND PETS
Below the information is mostly in regards to dogs, but can apply to cats and horses as well.
I'm sure you would all agree that "dogs are man/woman's best friend" and the rest of our pets are just like family as well. As such, we want to care for our pets with the absolute best to assure long, healthy, and happy lives. Caring for our pets with natural products in one of the best ways to assure this. Have you every considered what your personal home environment's effect may be on your pets? The more "green" and clean you can make your home (free of toxic chemicals, cleaners, scented candles, air fresheners, floor cleaners, carpet sprays etc) the healthier your dog will be.
The first line of protection for our pets is through their coat or feathers or skin. Diet, included tap water tainted with chlorine and fluoride and toxic cleaning agents can cause imbalances, both mentally and physically.
Animals will respond in varying degrees of acceptance when offered an essential oil, regardless of the method used (ie: topically, internally, inhalation). Some animals will readily lie beside a diffuser or near an open bottle of oil, while others will want to leave the room where oils have been applied or diffused.
If animals shy away from a certain oil it may be because it may be too strong. You can try adjusting the strength of the scent by adding a carrier oil to it or diffusing it, this will usually remedy the situation. You can also allow the animal to choose the essential oil itself by carefully setting out bottles. Allow your pet to go to the bottle of its choice and watch for its reactions. Careful observation is a must as your perform this exercise with your pet. ------Above information is taken from the Animal Reference Guide - 1st Edition.
