In addition to working with MR construction, I am also the Lead Speech Language Pathologist for Galveston ISD. Last year was my first year in that position. One day while at the high school working with my special friends there I discovered that their kitchen was not functional and had not been for years. I immediately knew what needed to be done. This was such a great opportunity to bring together the two jobs I am passionate about for these students. Mike, myself, and the MR construction team are thrilled to be able to do this for these students in Galveston!
Thank you GISD Educational Foundation for helping make my vision a reality. I am already excited just thinking about the finished product! (From the GISD Education foundation)
And the fun begins! The GEF awarded $12,200.00 to Mariellen Rigby for grant “Kitchen and Store Crashers”. Teaching our students skills of daily living is critical. Our ultimate goal in special education is for students with disabilities to be as independent as possible by the time they either graduate or age out at 21. This grant will remodel the life-skills kitchen and make it operable to effectively implement the full curriculum of our high school life-skills program. The students will be able to utilize the kitchen and store to the best of their abilities to enhance their independence in our community. Great job Ms. Rigby! CONGRATULATIONS!
