"The sweet girl in the picture is my darling Paisley Mae. Next month we will celebrate her 3rd year with us, and her approximately 11th or 12th (best guess) birthday.
I met Paisley at an event where I was volunteering with a different organization. Up pulls the awesome Karen from Lizzy's Animal Hospice. And in the back of the car a sweet Paisley. It was definitely love at first sight (for me at least!). Karen wondered if I was just crazy, because I kept coming back throughout the event to talk to Paisley. She knew I was serious when I drove home and picked up my other dog and brought him back to the event for a meet and greet.
To be clear - I was not looking for a second dog. I certainly was not looking for a senior dog who also was completely blind. For the first four weeks or so, we would all sit together on the stairs and cry. Paisley hadn't navigated stairs previously and she didn't trust me enough to help her through it. I thought she was going back to Lizzy's. But we persevered and stuck together and I honestly couldn't imagine life without her.
In the last three years she's survived one major surgery for mammary cancer, and is now struggling with some serious mobility issues. She also has claimed the big queen bed as her own and scorned every expensive dog bed I've bought her! But we've never looked back and I'm so happy to call her part of our family. Adopt a senior!!
