Let me tell you about this little paper circle.
I've carried this cutout with me for years. It's been on vision boards, in/on my bed side table, taped to my treadmill and in various states (even across the world)! I'm a big believer in visualizing and keeping your dreams front and center. And this race...this race is a big one for me. Every year since I was able to run again, I've dreamt of returning back to my home state of CA and those trails and running this race. And since my first lottery entry in 2012, that desire has grown ever brighter.
Tomorrow, there are going to be some incredibly happy people who get to hear their name called out at the Placer High School Auditorium and I'm just so excited for those that get picked. Of course, I'd love to hear my name and be able to utter the famous "see you in Squaw" but I also know I'm playing the long game. And if tomorrow isn't my day, I have absolute faith that it will come. And when it happens, it will be just when it is meant to happen and not a year sooner. I can truly say the joy through this waiting game really comes from journey.
To all of my friends in the lottery tomorrow, gosh, I am SO cheering for you. I hope your name gets called and you get your chance to round the track in Auburn the last weekend in June. The joy of social media is that it makes the world a little smaller, so I just know I'll recognize some lucky folks when they are drawn out if the pool of thousands tomorrow.
But in the end, whether it is WS100, Boston, or to run a string of miles consecutively for the first time, never give up on your goal. Visualize it. Stay hungry for it. And don't doubt that when it finally happens, well, it is going to be downright amazing.
Sleep well and best of luck tomorrow friends!! xx
