If I never diet again, how will I lose weight?
Well, let me tell you a little story. Kathleen came to me before she had her last child. She had been struggling with her weight for quite some time. The lifestyle of having kids and always putting others first had taken its toll. She was eating to soothe herself at night after the kids had gone to bed, and never made time for exercise. She also went most of the day without eating, and then wondered why she had a hard time saying ‘no’ to the mac ‘n’ cheese she made the kids for dinner.
When she started working with me she learned to listen to her own body’s hunger and fullness signals. She discovered that it was easy to lose weight, and then maintain it, if she merely listened to her body. Some days she wasn’t that hungry, so didn’t eat as much at each meal. Other days she worked out hard (yes, she started working out again...for fun!), and she felt hungrier, so allowed herself to eat what her body needed. She found that her body never lied!
Her hunger signals were there for a reason. Her body was never trying to trick her, like she had previously thought!
The wonderful part of this story is that Kathleen ended up getting pregnant with her third child a year after we started working together. She maintained her beautiful mindful eating practices while pregnant and only gained 30 lbs. After she had her baby, she had completely lost the weight within a year….a steady healthy weight loss. All without dieting. She simply listened to her body, Ate when she was comfortably hungry and stopped with she was comfortably satiated.
It really can be that simple. I want to hear your successes with Intuitive and Mindful eating versus dieting.
I had a similar story to Kathleen. After my last baby I refused to diet, listened to my body and ate mindfully, The weight came off slowly and steadily and I was back at my pre-baby weight within about 8 months. Thank goodness I never had to diet or go crazy to get there!
