#XBit Day 6. 👀
Themes of relationship, trust-building, presence, and leadership were discussed last night at Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership Mentor Connection event, out of research led by Dr. Irene Herremans. We considered how quality mentor/mentee relationships are formed, and why these relationships lead to substantial growth and value for both mentees and mentors.
Deep learning can come more from questions than from answers. When a mentor asks an insightful question, mentors are introduced to a different thought pattern. Mentees who are willing to share their unique perspective can widen the perspective of their mentor, as was so eloquently put by former mentee/current mentor Faith Jean, noting that being on either side of this relationship "helps us on our own reflection journey". Reflection is a critical process in learning. Next time you are working on a concept, consider questions like these to enhance your own learning: "How would I improve this concept?"
"To what area of my life/my field could I apply this concept in a new way?"
"Why would the author have ordered the chapters of this book in this way?"
"What is the logical conclusion of this concept, taken to it's farthest point?" #laterallearningxperiment #llx #mentorship #mentor #mentee #reflection #learning #alternativeeducation
