Some food for thought "Your words can be either like a leaky waterhose or a well-placed soaker hose. Here's the difference: A leaky waterhose gushes out water, in the most unhelpful places, too much to be effective, and sometimes harmful if misplaced or given at the wrong time. They are hard, forceful, and unforgiving. They wash away the good soil that's planted in the ground, exposing bare, dry earth. A leaky waterhose can cause death to the plants near it, as it washes away without providing life to the things that need it most.
When we speak harsh and unkind words to others, and to our children, we do not encourage, but discourage their efforts. When we say things that hurt their hearts, we are like a leaky waterhose--providing no benefit, only destruction.
Instead, our words should be like a well-placed soaker hose. Gentle in force, giving positive strength and truth, slowly encouraging the good to come from others, bringing life-giving, soul-quenching nourishment to those who need it most. Kind words are most often gentle ones. They don't wash away and expose, but they give life when used appropriately and consistently to enrich others. Let your words be a soaker hose today, not a leaky waterhose. Ephesians 4:29: Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” ~~ Julie Alexander
