Got to wait a few days for the lime mortar to cure so here's the progress so far - not long to go. #forge #littlewoodham #17thcentury #blacksmith #livinghistory

At last, I managed to find time today to continue the build of the 17th century forge and made some good progress ! This pattern arrangement of the bricks, known as a brick bond, is called the English Bond, which was a common brick bond during this period. #littlewoodham #forge #blacksmith #livinghistory #17thcentury

Good morning - it's another beautiful day !! #littlewoodham #forge #blacksmith #17thcentury

Bricks cleaned and area prepped. We now have a hole for the dust to fall when using charcoal. This took a while as I had to be pretty careful, taking out brick by brick but happy news - the chimney stack didn't fall down ! So now we're in the reconstructing phase - plan now is to try out a couple of designs and see how well the Tudor bricks splice in to the existing Victorian bricks what you can see now is effectively a strong base supporting the chimney stack, all of which will be covered up #littlewoodham #forge #17thcentury

Herringbone base to the fire pit provides a nice early period type feature to the front. Cutting in the bricks to the stone was pretty fiddly, but worth doing properly even though the fire pit herringbone base will never be seen. Now all that's left is the back and side walls and it will be complete 👍. #forge #blacksmith #17thcentury #littlewoodham #livinghistory

Isn't it a fantastic feeling when you get to see someone using the things you make !! Ok, I promise this is the last photo of one of my bottle openers but I just wanted to share this photo with you - it was sent through from a friend that bought a bottle opener and is already putting it to good use 👌🍻 #blacksmith #beer #iron #forge #littlewoodham

As well as the old fifth foot anvil and the church window anvil, I have this wonderfully old stake anvil. A lovely anvil to use, demonstrate and talk about to visitors. It has a sloped flared base to help prevent it from turning in the stump when being used. Very similar to the stake anvil in the oil painting of 'Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan' painted by Diego de Velázquez in 1629/1630. I sent pics and size details to the British museum and initial estimates put it between the late 16th century and the turn of the 17th century. I love it and very proud to own and use it - I often wonder how many people have heard the ring from these old anvils over the several hundred years they've been around 👍💥🔨 #blacksmith #forge #wroughtiron #littlewoodham #17thcentury #reenactment #livinghistory

I was forge welding some wrought iron yesterday and managed to catch this lucky shot using my phone! I love wrought, but I don't get to play with it much. I got this piece when I visited @woodham_forge last year. Cheers David! #fireweld #forgeweld #wroughtiron #luckyshot #nexus6p #blacksmith #martinwood #moderntwist #littlewoodham
