My 7 year old daughter started the forge this morning for the first time - the start of her becoming a blacksmith πŸ‘πŸ’₯πŸ”¨ #forge #17thcentury #livinghistory #blacksmith #littlewoodham

Isn't it a fantastic feeling when you get to see someone using the things you make !! Ok, I promise this is the last photo of one of my bottle openers but I just wanted to share this photo with you - it was sent through from a friend that bought a bottle opener and is already putting it to good use πŸ‘ŒπŸ» #blacksmith #beer #iron #forge #littlewoodham

Fantastic day !!! I ran my first 17th Century Forge experience day with two fabulous people Betty and Vlad. Neither had any blacksmith experience but today they learnt everything from lighting the forge to working with steel and wrought iron and they made some great things too, rose head nails, spiked hooks with double twists, free style keyrings, a torque bracelet and a steak turner with a leaf looped end. Thank you @resident_spaceship_zombie and @vladcepraga you guys were awesome and I hope to see you again soon !! #17thcentury #littlewoodham #experienceday

Got to wait a few days for the lime mortar to cure so here's the progress so far - not long to go. #forge #littlewoodham #17thcentury #blacksmith #livinghistory

Making some wrought iron candle holders. I've found working fast is the trick, less heats the better - so here I'm drawing out over a rounded edge of the old fifth foot anvil and then fish tailing for the cup using the cross peen all in one heat ! I've found that with steel I can take my time, but wrought iron I've found I need to heat hotter, and work quicker is the trick ! #17thcentury #blacksmith #forge #littlewoodham

Happy days - can't wait to get this forge up to forging temperature !! #livinghistory #17thcentury #blacksmith #forge #littlewoodham

At last, I managed to find time today to continue the build of the 17th century forge and made some good progress ! This pattern arrangement of the bricks, known as a brick bond, is called the English Bond, which was a common brick bond during this period. #littlewoodham #forge #blacksmith #livinghistory #17thcentury

Mistress here is whittling a lucet that all women in 1643 would have used to make very tough cord. This cord is used in all daily life, such as tieing bodices and shoes, and hanging shelves. Lucets are such a useful size for popping in your pouch and taking with you wherever you go! .

The kiln has been opened! A very successful firing has provided us with more galley pots than we could have asked for! And many new items, such as small voiders and water jugs! Many of these will be used within the village but a lot will go to our gift shop for visitors to purchase.
Well done Master Potter!

The craft day was a fantastic success again this year, raising more funds than ever in order to keep Little Woodham looking wonderful and giving it's volunteers more opportunities to entertain and educate visitors.
If you missed it this year, don't worry, it'll be back in 2018!

219/365 In Sync. Couple of weekends ago we visited a working 17th Century village and thought we'd fit in quite well! He can do all the woodworking, fishing, hunting and cooking while I grow veg and make clothes and pottery. Reckon we'd survive but we'd need modem medicine to stand much of a chance of making it to 40!
