Back in the day there were no cameras so people would sketch instead. Extremely time-consuming in my opinion but even so I do quite like what my aunt captured here. I’m the one standing up if you can’t tell.
I wanted to capture a slice of life moment that encapsulated who Superman is for his 80th Anniversary and to do that, I looked to Norman Rockwell and Kurt Ard. It's the iconic moment where Clark tears open the shirt and removes his glasses but with a twist: here, Lois is helping him by holding onto his glasses and tie so he can get them when he gets back. Lois is based on Noel Niell. And yes, the red trunks are under his slacks.
I also included LexCorp in the background of the cityscape because I wanted at least one aspect of Superman's arch nemesis present on the cover. There's also a reference to the Death of Superman which was one of the first Superman stories I ever read.
Thanks to my sister, I’ve been mainlining The Vampire Diaries like the crack that it is. . My favorite element is definitely the evolution of the complicated relationship between Damon and Stefan Salvatore. . So, I worked up a quick 30 minute sketch... took me longer to find my sadly neglected colored pencils than to block in the faces. I love spot color in a b&w image... could have pushed my darks further, but it’s a quick sketch. @iansomerhalder@paulvedere . . . . . . #art#sketch#pencil#thevampirediaries#tvd#tvdforever#vampires#fanart#blue#blueeyes
