Folks, I have some things to say,
So for years, I have had some body image issues, and here is a little post about one of them.
For as long as I can remember, I have been told that stretch marks are ugly.
I’ve heard my mum complain about her pregnancies giving her stretch marks and have always believed that when you have stretch marks, you are ugly and less of a person.
This weird mentality has hit me a few times especially as I went through puberty (before most of my peers) and that gave me stretch marks on my sides. I was sooo embarrassed to have them so I refused to change in front of people as I was ashamed of them, so I would always change in the bathroom stalls.
The first picture is a screen cap from a short film I created to combat my body image issues, it’s called “Imperfect” and you can find it on my YouTube channel (grimstaroxx).... anyway, when my datemate and I first got together, we were texting when I broke down having an anxiety attack over my insecurities. I told him about them and he asked that next time we saw each other, he see my stretch marks.
So one night I was at his house and he ran his hands over them and said “you know, I saw a tumblr post about them being like lightning scars.... I think they’re really cool.”
So the second picture is my stretch marks as lightning bolts.... And a message to anyone not happy with their stretch marks... you don’t have to love them, but they are not a sign of ugliness, you are not less of a person if you have them. And a fact that I wish I’d known years ago, almost everyone has stretch marks, it just means your body grew quicker than it could keep up, it does not make you fat or unlovable.
Please don’t hate your lightning scars ❤️
