Thank you so much for all of the emails, messages, and comments on the post the other day. It means more than you know! I have remained under the radar for a bit, and after some soul searching, have decided that I have stories to tell - maybe not fairy tales, but tales of rising, conquering, and pressing on, even in (and especially in) the face of criticism and doubt. I always say this is not a clothing brand, it is a movement empowering women and clothing happens to be one of the ways through which we channel that energy.
We print each piece ourselves, in our living room, and with that has come some major sacrifices and soul searching along the way. What you wear is not just a garment, but a piece created with love and vibrating with a specific frequency--you'll see lots of goddess imagery and archetypes throughout the brand. I started creating baby clothing for my own kids when I felt a void in market and the brand has grown into mostly adult now.
The name for The Pine Torch comes from an ancient Latin bridal poem by poet Catullus, of a mother giving her daughter away for marriage, which in that time, was ostensibly equivalent to her sending her daughter out into the world alone: "Bind thy brow with flowers / pound the ground with thy feet / shake with thy hand the pine torch." This poem, inciting a young maiden to be passionate, authentic, truth seeking, and wild, is what guides everything we do.
So thank you for coming along on our journey...even though you may walk through the dark, forging your own path, and holding a torch seems like your means of survival, remember your torch lights others' paths. When you raise your own light, you enlighten others as well. -Mariana #trailblazer #thepinetorch #feminist #lightbearer
