🌟How to get stronger and move better:🌟

1) Start training with the big, compound lifts as your primary focus. Too often, I see women doing only isolation exercises like triceps kickbacks and leg lifts. Instead, focus on squatting, benching and deadlifting your heart out! You’ll get stronger instantly and build more muscle definition faster.

2) Video your lifts. If you’re looking to move better and lift with more confidence, you need to know what you’re doing right and what you’re doing wrong. Filming your lifts gives you the advantage of instant replay, so you can see if your foot placement was right or you had good depth. You can literally watch between sets and try to improve in real time!

3) Hire a coach. Having someone knowledgeable in our corner will help you get stronger and move better because they’ll point out your weaknesses and help you work on them. Training with compound lifts and getting videos are important, but many people don’t know what to do or how to fix their form. If your training is important to you, hiring a coach is 100% worth your while. My strength skyrocketed when I stopped doing my own programming and relied on someone else to do it for me.

Was getting some funny looks going through some coordination moves on the gym floor this afternoon.

Coordination has never been my strong point so I’m including more and more of this in my routines.

The gym isn’t always about lifting heavy. Try to include some mobility and stretching every time you train.

STRETCHING 🤸‍♂️🧘‍♂️ .
Don’t forget to stretch!! Stretching before and after a workout is so important to help prevent injury and soreness. Incorporating stretching into your warm up is key to getting full range of movement in your lifts which decreases risk of injury and improves the effectiveness of your lifts as you incorporate your muscles fully. Stretching after a workout is a great way to cool down and helps your muscles to relax, helping to ease muscle soreness post workout. It doesn’t have to take long, just a couple of stretches for 10-30 seconds for each muscle group your working is plenty. Plus, I personally want to improve my flexibility and have better form doing things like the splits because it’s just a fun party trick 🤸‍♂️😂 (my form is far from perfect in any of these stretches as my hips should be more square - the hotel gym had no air con which just made it impossible to grip so I kept sliding around and couldn’t hold a stretch 😂) #diabetes#fitness#t1d#diabeticfitness#diabetestype1#diabetesfit#stretching#flexibility#warmup#cooldown#liftbetter#rangeofmotion#injury#prevention#easemusclesoreness#splits#stretch#gymnastics#partytrick

Can we just say this one is an obvious no-no vs. yes-yes when setting up for a bent over dumbbell row?

To fix the back rounding issue, think of raising your chest up, while still bent over. Squeeze your booty and hinge at the hips, not at the back.
If you’re using weight that’s too heavy, your form will digress as you do more reps. Choose a weight that’s challenging but not overpowering for the movement!

Just taking this pic of bad form made my back feel icky, so if you think bent over exercises hurt, you should probably take a look into your form. Exercises can make our muscles feel tired, tight or burny, but should never be painful! If you feel pain: stop, check your form and probably lower the weight.

We’re talking rows again because it’s a common enough exercise, that I see it done poorly a lot.

The issue with the left is the low back hyper extension. We are NOT trying to pop our booties in the single arm row. My neck is also craned up to mire myself in the mirror...no, no. 🙅🏻‍♀️

The right pic is better because my back has a natural curve to it aka much flatter and my neck is more neutral as well. Achieve this position by squeezing the butt cheek on the straight leg and think about pulling your pelvis and your ribs toward each other (also known as anterior pelvis tilt). Focus your gaze on the floor in front of you rather than in the mirror, checkin’ out your muscles.
