Blood Lines - One of Barcelona’s great public art treasures is an intensely red linear mural by Keith Haring on a concrete wall near the entrance of the MACBA in the Raval. Painted in red, the color of blood, this mural contains all of his iconography: children, life, sex, death. Good ultimately triumphs over Evil, and its message is upbeat: Todos juntos podemos parar el sida (Together we can stop AIDS). Sadly, AIDS stopped Keith Haring, one scant year after his visit to Barcelona. But his legacy lives on in this work. Hoping he wouldn’t have minded my “Unreal Reality” treatment of his mural! A shot of his original mural is also included.
