This morning I woke up at 6am. It's a 9 hour time difference from California here in Cairo, so it's taking some time to adjust. This past weekend, we went downtown and explored some pockets of the city. I've lived in some big metropolitan cities before, but I've never seen a place like this. So many people, so little space. I haven't found my escape to nature just yet. I'm hoping to find some golden light along the coast this weekend, but I have to warn you: the Cali pics aren't going away 😉🍃
What are your travel plans for the summer, guys?
For my last post from Monrovia I want to share my favorite thing about my time in the city. It wasn't the beach or the sunset, but all of the wonderful people I met. When I arrived a grandma on the bus let me into her daughter's car, offering to drive me to where I was staying. My host there immediately acted more like a friend and took me out to explore Liberian nightlife and introduced me to his whole crew. The next day as I wandered the city I randomly ran into the family that had driven me the first night! It was Friday so I asked where to pray and the son-in-law took me to his local mosque and then drove me all around the city and to the abandoned Ducor Hotel. In the night we ate dinner together and they answered my dozens of questions about culture and history in the region. When I was leaving a couple days later the same family offered to wake up at 5am and take me to the bus terminal where he helped me negotiate and get the best price and best seat! In between all of my photos there are always great people who make my trips meaningful and I am endlessly grateful for all of them.
