“Fifty years ago today, a 16-year old girl and a 19-year old boy who were very much in love got married. The wedding was planned in 10 days, not because the girl was "in trouble" as some may have whispered, but instead it was because the boy was headed to the war in Vietnam and he didn't want to leave without making the girl his wife. They were idealistic and naive. They had no money, no place to call their own. They had no idea what the future held. Looking back you have to wonder if they had known all they would face in the decades to come, would they still have taken the chance? Would they still have been determined that love, their very young love, would be enough?
I believe they would. I know they would. Over these 50 years, through changes and challenges, through laughter and tears, their love for each other has been the constant. When one was weak, the other was strong. When one's faith wavered, the other was steadfast. They compliment each other and make more sense together than they ever would apart from one another.
I thank God for them. For their demonstration of how to love beyond reason. For the heritage they have granted us. For the legacy that will remain long after they have gone. Happy 50th Anniversary Dad and Mom! We love you!” Written by my sister, Gina but needed to share because her words were perfect! ❤️
