So I wrote a book then I got this. Certificate of registration for OUR FATHER with the United States Copyright Office. I'm in the Library of Congress. 😊 Next up: change some laws. Oh it's not that kind of congress. Even better! #noboxes #nolimits #OurFather #libraryofcongress

The Library of Congress was the first public building to be electrified in the US and, in a different way, it's electrifying still. #libraryofcongress #washingtondc #icouldlivehere

In 1935, Roy Stryker became the head of the Information Division of the U.S. government’s Farm Security Administration (FSA), documenting work done by the government to help poor farmers and their families during the Great Depression. Over the course of a decade, the scope of the FSA’s photographic subjects broadened, then transitioned to a war footing in the 1940s, becoming part of the Office of War Information. The resulting collection of more than 175,000 images remains a national treasure—a snapshot of American life during a difficult time. In the early years, Stryker himself reviewed and edited photographs mailed in by FSA photographers, and would often “kill” a photo he disapproved of (remove it from consideration for publishing) by punching a hole right through the negative. The photographers were unhappy with this destructive hole-punch method, and frequently let Stryker know, but he didn’t stop until about 1939. Recent digitization efforts have made nearly all of the FSA/OWI photos available to the public, showing defects, hole-punches, and all. Some of the punched images were duplicates, but many were unique, and are now lost. View excerpts from the collection, curated by Alan Taylor, in our Photo section. 📷: Library of Congress

I'm deeply grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity and humbled by the history and grandeur that is the LoC. The last photo (scroll through) is the main reading room, and we will be getting a private tour of it after the library closes tomorrow. In other words, most people can view it only from the top through a domed bubble of protective glass....📚❤️ #LCTeachInst #teacher #washingtondc #professionaldevelopment #primarysources #libraryofcongress #grateful

We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.

I worked my ass off to not only get to Capitol Hill but to promote my profession and my self. I have been researching every moment I could get to prepare for my meetings. Senator Dean Heller's Legislative Assistant said with an astounded look on her face, "you really know Senator Heller's stance on things." That comment made everything worthwhile. I was able to cite statistics and relate them back to the Senator's own bills such as the Resident Physician Shortage Act which aims to address Nevada's doctor shortage.
I am not saying this to brag about what I did today but to highlight one simple fact: activism is easy. Getting involved is easy. Meeting with your state legislators is easy. Knowing what your aim is and conveying it to them in a way that is beneficial for everyone is easy.
Some of my friends may not like that I am highlighting Senator Heller, a republican. But as I have been saying all day, health and nutrition are bipartisan. "Leave your politics at the door but bring your policy with you."- Lucille Beseler, #ppw2017

Took a weekend trip to DC. Pictured is the Library of Congress. Really wishing we could go back to architecture like this! Beautiful.
