This is a photograph of Covecastles Resort Villas on the magnificent Shoal Bay West in Anguilla. The villas were completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. When I visited in June of 2018, there wasn’t a single person around. It was a sad sight - the beautiful Caribbean Sea and the deserted buildings on the sea shore, which back in time were place of joy for many visitors.

One year after the hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the Caribbean region in 2017, I visited 25 Caribbean islands of which 18 were Caribbean islands nations. I booked 10 flights with various Caribbean airline companies - @liatairline @air.antilles @aircaraibes @caribbeanairlines I used multiple public buses and ferries. I booked all my accommodations through @airbnb
By the end of this trip, I’ve seen all Caribbean island countries besides Haiti.

I’ve been asked many times by fellow travelers about the situation in those islands after the 2017 hurricanes and which of them were affected the most. From what I’ve seen in 2018 - Dominica was hit the worst, followed by Saint Martin and Anguilla. I didn’t visit Puerto Rico in 2018 but years before the last year’s hurricanes, therefore I can’t comment on the situation there.

BOTTOM LINE: The restoration in the area continues, however the Caribbean still remains a paradise region on our planet, so worth it to be experienced. The best way to help the Caribbean after the 2017 hurricanes is to visit.

Details of my 2018 Caribbean journey:
🌴
In February, I landed in Exuma in the Bahamas to swim with the pigs at the Pig Beach and with the nurse sharks at Compass Cay. Also I had a blast hiking in Stocking Island!
🌴
In June, I explored St. Martin and island-hopped its neighboring islands - Anguilla, St. Barts, Saba and Pinel Island.
🌴
In July, I island-hopped in the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island) and in the British Virgin Islands (Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke).
🌴
In October, I island-hopped further in the Lesser Antilles, visiting 12 more islands: Antigua, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad & Tobago and Grenada.
