I love finding hidden gems and the Museum of military history in Piestany is definitely one.
I saw a small add about the place and thought it could be interesting for our son. You know: boys-aircrafts-tanks-helicopters, should work, or? I'm not that gifted with technical stuff (poor child had to rely on my crappy translations during the tour), but I love war history.
I was not expecting much, but they have a big collection of tanks, fighters (Europe's biggest collection of Mig21's), helicopters, cars and bikes dating from WWII till today. I was astonished by the knowledge of our tour guide and his enthusiasm towards his work got my full respect. As the high season is over we got almost a private tour and it lasted accordingly. Normally the tour lasts around 1,5 hours, but we left after three hours.
This place has so much potential and it's developing all the time. They got plenty of more items in storage and I hope they have the chance to present them too in the near future. (My fighter-loving/photographing-friend is basically booking his flight already after hearing and seeing our photos of this place!)
Big recommendations from us to this authentic experience. 👍👍👍 Check the tour schedule online before visiting, the museum gates will be only open at the according time. They do private tours too. Oh, and the entrance fee is a joke, 1€ for adults, kids for free. Don't let the modest entrance fool you: where the one sign is, with place for couple of cars, that's it 😂😍
I can't find an accurate location for you from ig, but check it out from www.vhu.sk and choose Piestany as branch.
