Track 8: I Keep Forgettin'
Album: Tonight (1984)
Written by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, and Gil Garfield and originally performed by Chuck Jackson in 1962. It seems like the song very undeservedly did not gain popularity or commercial success like other Leiber-Stoller hits such as Hound Dog (listen to the original 1953 recording by Big Mama Thornton), Yakety Yak by The Coasters (1958), and Love Potion No. 9 by The Clovers (1959)...just to name A FEW of my favorites. It's amazing to discover all the other numerous hits they've written for musicians that made them popular. Insane output. I don't hate Bowie's cover, but the original is undeniably superior and definitive. But if his goal was to bring rightful attention to a somewhat hidden gem, then I guess it worked and thank you, because now I know it and Chuck Jackson has been added to my 60s playlist. Also, the song that shares similarities and title by one Michael McDonald is not one I care to discuss...I'm bothered that I even dignified it by mentioning it...I guess that reveals I'm not head over heels over Michael McDonald's solo career...so be it. #musicsnob
