In the dawn of June, 5, 1940, begins the second phase of the German invasion of France. Rommel's 7th Panzer Division crosses the Somme River; Hoth with his armoured vehicles followed the coast of the English Channel, but the main assault was made by Kleist, with two Panzers Divisions (more than 1200 tanks), leaving from Amiens and Peronne went south, to press the Weygand Line. The tanks advanced easily, but the infantry was stopped by the French defense, at the end of the day the line was still standing. The next day, the German troops followed with heavy attacks, and the French tanks that tried to contain the advances of the Germans, were attacked by the air force. Under an attack of this size, the French troops began to withdraw further south. On day 7, von Bock, penetrated almost all the Weygand Line, the battle of the Somme was practically vanquished. Rommel divided the 10th Army in two, pushing them against the back of the canal. That night the Germans were only 40 km from Rouen. On June 9, von Rundstedt's Army Group began crossing the Aisne River, and General Weygand knew that the end was near, and a few days later the Germans entered Paris.
