#Foot thoughts and big toes!
Well I had a real ache in my big toe . And for the life of me I couldn't work out what I had to done to cause it. Then as we all do, I started to make a mountain out of a mole hill , maybe I had gout, maybe the start of an arthritic toe.
Well actually when I thought about it it was none of the above. it was down to a fabulous pair of #flipflops and the fact that I had worn them all day and seemed to have walked miles ( the step counter showed ild walked a lot!) In walking the big toe needs to extend which we push off to move us forward. In flip flops (wether we think we are or not) all our toes are gripping to a larger or lesser degree on to keep them on our feet . Now this lack ofthis sort of lever and gripping pattern causes problems further up the body as different muscle groups work in ways they are not really designed to . This in turn causes pains niggles aches and stiffness in toes ankles knees hips and lower backs and in my case my #achingbigtoe. If you don't believe me have you seen mr bolt sprint in flipflops ? You try and see how it feels.
So did that mean I'll bin the flip flops and never wear them again ? Of course not!!! The flipflops look fab and I love them. What it does mean is that I am now more aware of how long I wear them for and that I need to wear other shoes to compensate preferably with an ankle strap although personally I don't like them. It also means that I massage out my legs and feet on a regular basis to stop any aches and niggles becoming a serious problem. I also do foot and leg stretches and strengthened to help. But whatever the weather happy summer feet!
