Head over to @hiphopweeklymagazine to check out @kimsomajor amazing recap of #LegendsXHouse The great feedback has been overwhelming. (via HHW) SXSW 2017 had it’s share of Legends tributes. From The Notorious BIG at My Mixtapez stage to Pimp C and Proof at Scratchouse. LegendsXHouse was held March 18th, the last active day during SXSW at Scratchouse in Austin, Texas. An epic party and tribute concert honoring the musical contributions and legacies of hip hop heroes Pimp C of UGK and Proof of D12.
Presented by UGQ, Upstage Style and Shady Records, LegendsXHouse included live performances from recognizable names including Obie Trice, D The Future, Lil Keke, SosaMann, Sauce Walka, Killa Kyleon, ScottyATL, Kidd Kidd, Big Sant, DJ Salam Wreck, RizzooRizzoo, Cool Amerika and newly Hustle Gang signee, RaRa.
Keeping the energy all the way up at the LegendsXHouse was Atlanta’s own Fort Knox Live. Special thanks to Cherrell Rene for inviting Hip Hop Weekly Magazine and showing awesome hospitality.
The event’s organizers also used their platform to shine a light on some upcoming acts. Newcomers including King Jazzy, ScoMoney, Lavish Jay and Noah Watson also performed to a packed house.
I also spotted some notable faces in the crowd enjoying the show. Bigga Rankin, Kingpin The Promo Vatican, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Lil Flip, TV Johnny, Bam Rogers, and Doughbeezy were all in attendance.
A surprise debut performance from Proof’s son, recording artist Nasaan drove home what this tribute event was really about, honoring his father and Pimp C’s legacy, standing in support of the family and remembering the cultural impact they both have in the music industry.
A few other highlights of LegendsXHouse included:
Chinara Butler introducing writer and film producer Mehka King to premiere the new trailer for the highly anticipated documentary The Color Green: Cash Color Cannabis
There were several merch vendors onsite including a 7Thirteen pop-up shop hosted by Lil Keke The Don. Upstage Style a Proof themed pop-up shop hosted by Proof’s wife Sharonda Holton. And AllThingsTrill.com pop-up shop hosted by Chinara Butler known for her Pimp C culturally influenced style items.
