Godzilla sequel more like #KongSkullIsland than the 2014 original, early reactions claim!
Last night early test screenings were reportedly held for next year's Godzilla sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and as expected, viewer reactions and initial thoughts made their way online!

To sum up the majority of feedback, it sounds like #Godzilla2 will be a lot more action-packed like Kong: Skull Island and less atmospheric and subtle like the 2015 original. Twitter user Jeremy Conrad, who we sourced the original claims of the test screenings from yesterday, followed up today, adding that the monster fights are apparently "epic", while plot and character development seem to have taken a back seat:
Jeremy Conrad Twitter tweets: sounds like the monster fight in #GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters are absolutely EPIC.
Human characters are cardboard and the story is dumb, but you only care about epic monster fight, Right?
Compared more to #Skullisland than #Godzilla 1. That good.
Of course these are merely opinions being reiterated, but the knowledge of King of the Monsters focusing more on the Monsters and their action than #Godzilla2014 is something we've known would happen since 2015. With having 4 or more total monsters in the film, 3 of which requiring proper introductions and backstory, it leaves very little room for human character and plot development. However, following the fairly unanimous reactions to #GarethEdwards' original, it would appear that fans really are more interested in seeing Monsters brawl and care less about the human characters caught in the mayhem.
Keep in mind, assuming the reactions are true, these are very early reactions to a very rough version of Godzilla 2. Over the next year, #MichaelDougherty and the post production team will undoubtedly iron out any wrinkles prior to its March 22nd, 2019 release date.

Thanks to Ben for the heads up!

#GodzillavsKong’ Battling Soon – Begins Shooting This Fall In Atlanta!
Last year, we revealed that Adam Wingard’s #Godzilla vs #Kong would be returning to Atlanta, Georgia sometime in 2018. And we have an update to share.

Omega Underground has learned that filming is expected to begin on October 1st and will wrap around February of next year. This would give Adam and his team plenty of time before the effects-heavy film’s 2020 release date.

Our reporting last year revealed accurate production dates for #Godzilla2.
We’re unaware when casting will begin but we previously reported that Wingard will be reuniting with production designer Tom Hammock (The Guest, Blair Witch) on the kaiju crossover.

Legendary and Warner Bros. have given Godzilla vs Kong the release date of May 22nd, 2020.

Prime 1 Studio Reveals
#KongSkullIsland Statue At WonderFest!
#Prime1Studio revealed their #Kong: #SkullIsland statue that had been teased some time ago, and it was worth the wait. The statue looks awesome and features what looks to be hair in it, chain and propeller. It also has multiple heads (open mouth, closed mouth, showing teeth) and a separate propeller (possible from when it hits the #SkullCrawler), these are most likely for a deluxe version. No info yet on release date or price but expect it to by available from their partner #SideshowCollectibles.

#GodzillavsKong To Film This Year?
Per usual, Gormaru Island is on top of the harder-to-find tidbits regarding the #Godzilla fandom. This time they have unearthed an article by Atlanta, Georgia's Business Chronicle. The Chronicle had an interview with film office chief Lee Thomas who spoke about the industry's growth in Atlanta. One of the films referenced as part of the industry's 2018 development was Godzilla vs. Kong. "Thomas said she thinks the industry will continue building momentum throughout 2018, with more shows coming town, reportedly including "#GodzillavsKingKong." This is the only mention of the big 2020, giant monster crossover. The article continues to pull examples of how Atlanta's film business is growing--Including a Kodak Photographic Arts Center which would make the city set-friendly for celluloid.
It's important to note that this is not official confirmation that Godzilla vs. Kong's production will start this year. However, the Atlanta Business Chronicle has been on point about Godzilla before. This could be the first sign of a quickly approaching production start. More as it comes.

Thanks to Gormaru Island for the digging.

Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by #AdamWingard based on a writers room story led by Terry Rossio. Alex Garcia is producing.
The film will hit theaters May 22nd, 2020.
#GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters hits theaters March 22nd, 2019. #GodzillaPlanetOfTheMonsters will arrive on Netflix January 17th, 2018 and its sequel #GodzillaDecisiveBattleMobileBreederCity will hit Japanese theaters May, 2018.

Good new!
Reportedly "#GODZILLAvsKONG" To Possibly Film In Atlanta GA For Principal Photography. "It looks like #Godzilla will continue to make Georgia it’s production home base with #AdamWingard‘s Godzilla vs #Kong.

We have learned that #LegendaryPictures is now expected to shoot a bulk of the stage work for Godzilla vs Kong in Atlanta. The upcoming Godzilla sequel was shot in the area (plus Mexico City) and it seems that the studio enjoyed what the Atlanta facilities offer. There is an expectation that characters from #Godzilla2 could be returning for the crossover.

Atlanta is a busy production space so getting in there early tends to be how studios are planting flags while competing for stages.

A while back we reported that production designer Thomas Hammock (The Guest, Blair Witch, #DeathNote) would be reuniting with Wingard on the massive #kaiju crossover. Suggesting that the film could already be in some sort of early prep/pre-production stages.

The question moving forward is when the film will begin shooting?

Well, we haven’t been able to uncover production dates but considering the high volume of effects involved they might want to get a head start and begin sometime next year. The studio has set a release for May 22, 2020, which could give them plenty of time for reshoots and visual effects tinkering. Then again, we’ve seen plenty of big films start production a year before the release date, early to mid-2019 wouldn’t be shocking either."

@andrewazcona and @gojifan16 both asked, simplified, what do I want to see in the future for the Monsterverse and how much longer do I think the general audience can withstand the western kaiju genre. First off, holy shit do I have so many wishes for the Monsterverse lol! A Rodan spinoff where he takes on Megaguirus and her Meganula, a Mothra spinoff featuring Battra or the scrapped Bagan story, Gareth Edwards's dream of a Destroy All Monsters remake, the ideas are endless! Now, onto the second portion of the question, how much longer can the general public take? We kaiju fans can watch these films for hours and days on end! However, the average person who isn't that exposed or that much a fan of the Kaiju genre might not be able keep attention with anymore upcoming films. With Rampage, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Godzilla: KOTM, and Godzilla vs. Kong all coming up who knows when people will start saying, "Really, another one?". Right off the back I believe Godzilla vs. Pacific Rim is just a mess of an idea, and any other solo kaiju films just won't draw the attention of average movie goers who don't know their monster history. Godzilla and King Kong sure, they're huge with the genre! Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah? Thats already pushing it. At my early screening of Kong: Skull Island I assured audiance members to stay and watch the post credit scene. But to my disappointment, many of them left confused as to who Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah even were. It's a genre not meant for every person in America, and though saying that is sad its definetly true. That's what makes the monster films we love so much meaningful and treasurable to us true fans.
