Five months into the year and 2017 is already on pace to be one of the deadliest years measured for the number of people killed by American police and the crisis shows no signs of slowing down.
At least 492 people have lost their lives at the hands of American police so far this year and as the number grows, I've noticed many extremely disturbing trends.
At least three different unarmed 15-year-old black boys have been shot and killed by law enforcement in this past month alone. As far back as I can research, we've never had a single month in this country's history where three different unarmed black boys this young have been shot and killed by police in three different incidents in the same month.
And, in each incident, what we have seen is the police make drastic changes to their initial narratives of why they were forced to shoot and kill these young boys. - Shaun King

Our hearts continue to break😢😢😢 Why wld a man warn an officer about a firearm and in the same breathe pull it out and use it on that same officer with his FAMILY in the same car?!?! •

There is no justice once again and releasing the officer's dash cam video today proves that even more. And this is a perfect example of why I said TRUE freedom awaits us in yesterday's #juneteenth post. Things have definitely changed since 1865, but even through #segregation #jimcrowlaws and #civilrights it's apparent to see that WE ARE TRULY NOT FREE and that our lives...MY HUSBAND'S LIFE, MY SON'S LIFE AND EVEN MY LIFE AND MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE are all at disposal in making #amerikkka great again. #wakeup slavery jus adapted and evolved!!! If you can't see that you are in for a rude awakening when #martiallaw hits your doorsteps and you're being sent off to a #fema camp. To ignore injustice is to conform to it. So many ppl will ignore this post or be angry with it...others will silently agree or double tap it, but that not enough. How can we keep quite in a time like this?! #americawasnevergreat #philandocastile #sayhisname #legallynching #willielynchletter #nojusticenopeace #blackman #blackwoman #blackking #blackqueen #problack #blacklivesmatter #melanin #natural #africanamerican #hebrew #tribeofjudah #willtherealjewspleasestandup #outwiththeoldinwiththetruth #worshippinginspiritandintruth #israelite #jacobstrouble

#GeorgeStinney

George Junius Stinney Jr. (October 21, 1929 – June 16, 1944), was a 14 year old African-American convicted of murder as a result of a racially-biased and discriminatory trial in 1944 in his home town ofAlcolu, South Carolina. He is the youngest person in the United States in the 20th-century to be sentenced to death and to be executed.[1]

Conviction(s)First-degree murder(vacated)

Stinney was convicted in less than 10 minutes, during a one-day trial, by an all-white jury[2] of thefirst-degree murder of two white girls: 11-year-old Betty June Binnicker and 8-year-old Mary Emma Thames. After being arrested, Stinney was said to have confessed to the crime.[3][4] There was no written record of his confession apart from notes provided by an investigating deputy,[5]and no transcript was recorded of the brief trial. He was denied appeal and executed by electric chair.

Since Stinney's conviction and execution the question of his guilt, the validity of his reported confession, and the judicial process leading to his execution have been extensively criticized.[6]

A group of lawyers and activists investigated the Stinney case on behalf of his family. In 2013 the family petitioned for a new trial. On December 17, 2014, his conviction was posthumouslyn vacated 70 years after his execution, because the circuit court judge ruled that he had not been given a fair trial; he had no effective defense and his Sixth Amendment rights had been violated.[7][8] The judgment noted that while Stinney may in fact have committed the crime, the prosecution and trial were fundamentally flawed.[5]Judge Mullen ruled that his confession was likely coerced and thus inadmissible. She also found that the execution of a 14-year-old constituted "cruel and unusual punishment."[9]

Did you know that it's actually cheaper to keep criminals imprisoned for life, than it is to execute them?
- Cases without the death penalty cost, on average, $740,000USD, whilst cases with the death penalty cost, on average $1.26millionUSD. - Maintaining each death row inmate also costs American taxpayers, on average, $90,000USD more than a general population prisoner.
In California alone there are 714 inmates on death row that need to be maintained by taxpayer dollars.
All of this money for a punishment that violates the 8th amendment, is illegal under international law and has consistently been proven not to deter crime.

Jim Williams, A New Orleans Prosecutor, in 1985. Williams was so proud of his many death penalty convictions that he bought a miniature replica of an electric chair and stuck the images of his victims onto it. Every person visible on the chair in this photograph has since been exonerated. As exoneree Kirk Bloodsworth stated - "I went to death row, I could've been executed. We cannot un-execute someone." The death penalty makes killers of us all.

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? [No] Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement." - J.R.R Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
"But secondly you say 'society must exact vengeance, and society must punish'. Wrong on both counts. Vengeance comes from the individual and punishment from God." - Victor Hugo, The Last Day of a Condemned Man
