It may not look like much, but 蘿蔔糕 (luobo gao), or #turnipcake , is one of the my and hubby's favorite dishes to order at #dimsum . It's even better when homemade (where we can really bump up the mix-ins!), though I was definitely not prepared for how involved of a process it turned out to be: first shred, then simmer the daikon, then mix with rice flour (#glutenfree y'all !), then let sit, then add mix-ins, then steam, then let sit, then finally pan fry! About 3 hours total from start to finish😵. No wonder my mom always bought the pre-cooked cakes from the store to fry up at home. #toomuchtrouble #butworthit .
When cooked up properly, these are soft and gooey on the inside and crunchy crispy on the outside. YUM! On the left is a traditional flavor profile with Chinese sausage, dried shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp 🦐and scallions. On the right is some crazy experiment with #leftoverpizza 🍕, crusts and all, which actually turned out to be pretty amazing! .
