Awesome morning today with @adriendhondt in Flavigny. I know nothing better than meeting a young & talented winemaker whose champagnes were not familiar to me before, but during the tasting... I just fell in love with them = great fruit, gorgeous acidity and that stylish way how this fellow plays with oak and 1986 established solera. The average age of the vines is 45 years, and most of them grow in Côte des Blancs classics Cramant & Cuis.
Dans un Premier Temps (50 % CH from Sezanne, 30 % PN from Avenay and 20 % of 55 yrs old Meunier from Cuis; 2013 base with 30 % of reserve wines, dosage 5 g): lovely, delicate nose with subtle oakiness; swinging flavour with exemplary freshness and great acid line.
Les Terres Fines (100 % CH from Cuis, 2014 base, dosage 2 g): impressive, bright, yellow fruit dominates the aroma palette as well as the taste; delicious and delightful champagne that benefits greatly from being in the glass.
Prestige du Moulin (100 % CH from 55 yrs old Cramant wines, dosage 3,5 g): Adrien's parents started to make this champagne in 1990; beautiful and sophisticated yet expressive nose, gorgeous, mouthwatering acidity and by-the-book balance with perfectly integrated oak.
Vieilles Vignes Selectionnées 2011 (100 % CH from 1961-62 planted vines on the backside of Cuis, dosage 2,4 g): from a challenging year but perhaps my favourite of the range; seductive creamy nose, superdelicious taste and airy, fluffy texture backed up with nice oakiness and iodine characteristics; no trace of pungent green vegetables so typical of many 2011s... my body craves for more!
Le Bateau (100 % CH from lower Cramant slopes, dosage 1,6 g): before Adrien told he's a huge lover of Selosse's wines, I said there was something Selossean in this champagne; it distantly brought Chemin de Chalons into my mind; lovely, powerful, multi-layered, nicely oaky, Burgundian scent with underlying ginger and citrus cream aromas; big but not massive in mouth; very bright in character; another of my biggest favourites.
