“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” ~ John Burroughs
This quote is so cliché, but it is also so very true. I grew up on the outskirts of small southern town where the loudest noises in the neighborhood came from my group of friends squealing as we rode our bikes down hills we thought were terrifyingly steep. Flash forward 30 years, and I live as close to a big city as I would ever want to live. Noise is relentless. Sirens, racing cars, garbage trucks, trains, airplanes, and even sea gulls - noise is everywhere. I typically consider it white noise. It is there, but I almost don’t even hear it anymore. Then, I spend some time in nature, and I remember what silence really is when the only “white noise” comes from river rapids. Waking up here for the past two days has definitely put my senses back in order. I am rejuvenated, rested, and ready to face the work week ahead.
