I am a tech editor accepting new clients. If you need a second set of eyes on your pattern to check your wording, charts, math, written directions, and/or sizing, I can help. I work with both new and experienced designers. See my tech editing page for more info. It's Week 1 of #bizconfidencechallenge and we are supposed to list three things we are proud of.
1. I am so incredibly proud of my #learntotechedit graduates. They work so hard in the course but the real work comes in after and they are just kicking butt with their marketing efforts.
2. I am proud of the business I have built whilst also raising my kids. It's been tough and I didn't always do things right, but I'm proud of where I am today.
3. I am proud of my ability to help people. What I do in my business *is* making a difference to people and that really means a lot to me.

Happy Monday! Today is a spreadsheet sort of day. #techeditorlife

Part of the homework we're doing for #FiberBossCollege is doing brand archetype discovery.
I came up as a Sage, with a side of Creator on the Cerries Mooney test.
Even my tea from last night knows it! Why have I been reluctant to accept it!
I've not really wrapped my head around it until quite recently.
Looking back through a lot of my history is making more sense than it ever has.
I have always loved learning. I was considered an odd duck, because I actually liked school. Most of my contemporaries thought that a mighty strange attitude, so I was always considered "weird".
When I chose Elementary Education as my major, I thought I would like to pass on the experiences I had and be a great teacher.
It was not to be, but that's part of another story.
We're practicing storytelling as part of our FiberBoss homework, as well.
My need to pass on knowledge does still exist and I think that's why I started writing patterns and teaching at my local yarn shop.
My need to continue learning is also still in place. That may also be why I signed up for #swatchstudio and #fiberbosscollege as well.
I'm also about to sign up for Joeli Kelly's #learntotechedit Master Class. I mentioned it to someone saying that I was "a glutton for punishment". Her response was that instead, "I was a sponge for learning!" I guess I am!
Now how to continue with my "Sageness" and embrace it! And how I'll deal with it only time will tell.
I'm going to use Chelsea's classes to explore my brand identity. I hope you will follow me on my road to discovery with the help from @knitfitch and my yet to be discovered tribe. ✨

How did I do, Chelsea? ✨

The weather is beautiful today, so I'm working outside on the patio. I thought I'd take a little break from tech editing to answer the first of my #askatecheditor questions from yesterday. @thatchickmadeit asked "How does one become a tech editor?"
.
There are many paths to becoming a tech editor, but I feel like several things have prepared me:
1. A natural inclination and love for math and detail-oriented work.
2. Designing my own knitting patterns.
3. Many years of knitting experience, especially working from other people's knitting patterns.
4. Classes and info from @joelicreates (tech editing related) and from @taraswiger (small business and marketing related). These classes taught me so much and gave me the confidence to start my own small business as a tech editor.
.
I feel lucky to have found a job that I love so much and can do in my own backyard... well, those 4 days of the year when Iowa weather isn't too hot, too cold, or too wet. :)

New blog post is up! (Link in bio). Charts vs written instructions. What is your preference? I personally prefer charts for a few reasons - I find them more concise, clearer, easier to keep track of my rows, and I don't get lost in a sea of text abbreviations. Which one do you prefer and why? ⠀
