Journaling on the beaches of Costa Rica #takemeback!
When people think of travelling the world they think of amazing beaches, great scenery, tropical rainforests, quaint towns, different cultures (all of which are true) But backpacking is one of the hardest mental challenges I have ever gone through. You are tested daily! Your safety, the language barrier (I am unable to speak ANY spanish, despite numerous efforts), serious dangers, food, water, hygeine and the basic nececities we take for granted every day. Often we would travel for days, on buses, on trains not knowing where home would stay the next night, crossing borders and running risk of robbery and hijacking. But one thing is true - I wouldn't change one second of our 11 months on the road. It taught me so much about myself, my relationship and really I have so much in my life to be grateful for. We don't know how lucky we are until our basic needs are taken away. You get by! You don't need the car, the expensive clothes the fancy dinners out. You just need the basics, water, food, love and gratitude. Never forget how lucky we really are. ✨
