Week 8 of #learn2run with #horshamwellbeing and I can feel so many differences in myself. I really enjoy pushing myself to do more, run harder and I can’t even begin to imagine that I’d be running for as long as I have tonight. Even during the cool down I can lift my legs to my bum and hold it better than ever and when bending forwards I am closer to touching the ground than I have been in 15 years. I may look like a tomato, I’m no Usain Bolt and I walk some of it too, but I’m doing this to get fitter for the sake of my kids.

Fourth week of #learn2run by far my favourite. I’m really impressed with myself and the distances I am managing to cover without dying. I rarely say it but I’m proud of myself.

On my way to my #learn2run #horshamwellbeing class. Was hoping it would be a little cooler this eve but the temperature seems to have increased by 5oC in the last few hours. Lovely sun ☀️ if you could hide behind the clouds til after 7pm that’d be fab!

Second run last night. Did the same route but backwards. Really enjoyed myself. I also didn’t find myself desperate for the rest walks. Yay for progress. #couchto5k #learn2run #fitness

There's something a little magical about running in the rain... just a sprinkle of course, nothing too heavy.
Eltham has some great sneaky little running circuits & we made good use of one on Saturday.

Essential tips for runners! -

🏃🏻‍♂️Find a running partner. This will help keep you motivated and have more fun. .

🏃🏻‍♂️Start small and build up. Start with very low mileage 2-3 days a week and build up each week. It’s also helpful to mix in some weight training or cross training such as biking, swimming or rowing

🏃🏻‍♂️You don’t need new $200 running shoes. If you walk into a running store, they are going to ask you a bunch of questions and tell you that you need some shoes you have never heard of with descriptive words you can’t pronounce, and they cost $200. You don’t need that. You need a decent pair of running shoes(less than 6 months old). They should have a fair amount of cushion and stability. As you increase in mileage, you may want to invest in a more specific running shoe for your body type. .

🏃🏻‍♂️Find a breathing rhythm. This will help you control your breathing and run more efficiently. Figure out a comfortable breathing pattern and stick to it while you run until it becomes second nature. (You can breathe through your mouth or nose, it doesn’t matter).

🏃🏻‍♂️Relax your upper body. Be aware of the tension in your shoulders, arms and neck. If you are tense, relax your shoulders, drop your arms by your side and shake them to loosen up. (Seems silly but it works). .
