The New York Times reported the following day on May 9th "She arrived in a long black cape sweeping over a shimmering red-and-turquoise jewelled corset. The analysis had begun earlier, at a party at Laura Belle, a club on West 43d Street. More than $100,000 was collected there for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Dr. Mathilde Krim, one of the founders of the foundation, said Madonna had raised millions for it. "Her message is that young people should use condoms," Dr. Krim said. It was mentioned to Dr. Krim that some people believed the artist of "Papa, Don't Preach" and "Like a Virgin" promotes promiscuity. "She just reflects what exists already," Dr. Krim said. As for the star, Madonna said she was merely trying to show "real life" through her work.
