Sometimes when we experience pain 🔥 in moving our shoulders, we would normally look 👀 into our rotator cuffs, our traps, scapula and deltoids. One particular muscle that’s important for shoulder movement is the “Latissimus dorsi”, it’s also one of the most overlooked muscles 💪 as it’s difficult to differentiate it from other types of shoulder or back pain. So let’s have a look 👀 at the anatomy 📖 of this muscle.

This muscle is a powerful muscle that’s originated from a number points such as your lower back, parts of the thoracic spine, lower ribs, and the lowest part of your scapula (shoulder blade). It’s main insertion point is in the humerus, which means it has some involvement with our shoulder movement. Our lats help with extension, adduction (towards the midline) and internal rotation of the arm, as well as assistance in respiration.

It’s important that our body all syncs together. Having lower back pain can have biomechanics dysfunction in other regions of our body. For people to have shoulder problems, it might be a good idea to start looking 👀 at other areas asides from your shoulder.
